Who it fits
Good fit for
You should choose this knob if you need a simple, reliable lock for a bedroom or bathroom. The push-button design allows you to secure the door quickly without a key. The adjustable latch ensures it fits most standard door preparations in your home. The satin chrome finish complements modern fixtures. If you want a straightforward installation with included hardware and a warranty, this model suits your needs. It is ideal for renters or homeowners who prefer mechanical simplicity over smart features.
Who should skip it
You should look elsewhere if you require keyed entry from the outside. This model lacks a keyhole for external access, relying solely on the push-button and release tool. If you need smart home integration or remote locking capabilities, this mechanical knob will not meet your requirements. Additionally, if your door thickness is outside the 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" range, this unit will not fit. It is also not suitable for exterior doors or high-traffic commercial areas requiring higher Grade 1 or 2 security.
Verdict: The Kwikset Tylo Privacy Knob is a practical, certified choice for standard interior doors needing basic privacy. Its adjustable latch and included hardware make it a hassle-free upgrade for bedrooms and bathrooms.
Kwikset Tylo Key Specs Explained
Locking Type: Push Button
This mechanism allows you to engage the lock from the inside by pressing a button. It provides quick privacy for bedrooms and bathrooms without needing a key. You unlock it from the outside using the included release tool. This is simpler than thumb-turn locks, offering faster entry in emergencies while maintaining security for your personal space.
Door Thickness: 1-3/8" to 1-3/4"
The knob fits standard interior doors within this thickness range. Most residential doors fall between these measurements. If your door is thinner or thicker, this handle may not fit without modification. Check your door dimensions before purchasing. This spec ensures compatibility with common home construction standards, avoiding the need for custom drilling or frame adjustments.
Latch Backset: 2-3/8" or 2-3/4"
The latch distance is adjustable to fit two standard door preparations. You slide a pin during installation to set the correct length. This flexibility helps if your existing hole spacing differs from the new handle. It reduces installation errors. Most US doors use one of these two backsets, making this a versatile choice for standard replacements.
Certification: Grade 3 BHMA
This rating confirms the handle meets specific standards for security, durability, and finish quality. Grade 3 is suitable for interior residential use. It indicates reliable performance under normal conditions. For interior privacy doors, this level of certification ensures the hardware will withstand regular use without failing quickly, providing consistent peace of mind for your home.
Warranty: Lifetime Mechanical and Finish
Kwikset backs this product with a lifetime warranty for mechanical parts and finish. This covers defects in materials and workmanship. It suggests long-term reliability for your investment. If issues arise with the mechanism or coating, you may receive support. This protection is valuable for interior hardware that sees frequent daily use in high-traffic areas of your home.

Before You Buy Tylo Knob
This unit is an interior privacy knob, not an exterior deadbolt or smart lock. You should not use it for main entry doors. It pairs well with smart locks on your front door, keeping the interior secure while your video doorbell monitors the porch. Check your door thickness. The Tylo fits doors from 1-3/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches thick. Verify your backset. You can adjust it to 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches. This ensures compatibility with your existing hole patterns. The finish is satin chrome. Match this with other hardware in your home for a consistent look. Maintenance is simple. Wipe with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners. The Grade 3 BHMA certification indicates standard residential durability. It is not designed for high-traffic commercial use. If you need remote access, this knob does not have Wi-Fi. You will need a separate smart lock for that feature. This product is best for bedrooms and bathrooms where physical privacy is the main goal.
